Service Measurements
At the beginning of each project, we offer an introductory discussion to define the research aims, the specifics of the sample and the most appropriate testing scheme. The samples are provided by the customer, ready prepared for testing. All samples as well as all measured data and information discussed are treated confidentially. Any public citation requires a confirmation by the customer.
Data from free demonstration measurements remain property of Surface. Publishing any free demonstration measurements requires a confirmation by our laboratory.
After completing the tests a written electronic report is generated, summarizing the measured data. A final discussion can be appointed, if wished.
The following measurements are available in our laboratory:
1. SPM
- Topography
- Roughness analysis
- Mapping of thermal, magnetic and electronic properties
- Thermal transitions in polymers
2. Nanoindentation and mechanical measurements
- determination of hardness and Young’s modulus, statically or dynamically as a function of indentation depth
- imaging nanoindentation and precision positioning of indents
- dynamical measurements of E’, E“ und tan d in viscoelastic materials
- bending tests on micro structures
- scratch, friction and wear tests
- compression tests on micro structures
- fracture toughness
Sample geometries
Samples for mechanical testing should match one of two standard geometries:
- Standard: diameter up to 30 mm, height up to 8 mm
- Flat: diameter up to 10 cm, height up to 3mm
Deviating geometries should be discussed with the nanolab team in advance and fill in our request service form online.

Service testing is charged on an hourly basis (excluding VAT):

For extensive testing turnaround times might differ and will be defined individually. For non-standard probe geometries the costs for the tips will be charged to the project. Individual package prices are possible for extensive projects. For courses, training and consulting, please ask for an individual quotation.
